Fat Cattle Report
Good morning everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at only the cattle market this week, due to the Australia Day long weekend. Obviously with a very hot week in our drawing area, this did impact on previous weeks’ numbers, this week it was a reduced yarding of 3800 cattle, with all categories represented, with a large percentage of the yarding showing affects of a dry season.
The market in general was firm for most categories, with the exception of feeder steers which were 10 to 20 cents cheaper – regardless of breed.
Light vealer steers under 200kg to restockers – 420 to 515 cents but mainly around the 450 cent mark. Heavier drafts into the late 200kg live – 430 to 521 cents with the majority just shy of 500 cents.
Vealer heifers were in shorter supply, with the light weights under 200kg - 270 to 340 cents.
Yearling steers either side of 300kg live – 396 to 488 cents, heavier drafts up to 400kg to feeders 461 to 503 cents, with the majority around the 490 cent mark. With heavier drafts over 400kg 442 to 490 cents, but mainly around the 480 cent mark.
Yearling heifers up to 400kg to feeders 384 to 438 cents, with most sales between 410 and 420 cents. With heavier drafts over 400kg - 409 to 415 cents for the framey types, with the fresher forward drafts 413 to 437 cents with the majority around the 420 cent mark.
To export sales, with processor types fully firm 394 to 453 cents, with most sales around 445 cents. Export heifers to kill were in short supply, with the best 415 to 439 cents and only being 2 and 4 teeth.
Boner cows 248 to 320 cents, medium weight cows 281 to 320 cents for the framey types or 335 to 378 for the fresher forward drafts, with the restocker types 280 to 352 cents, with heavy high yielding cows 368 to 397 cents, with most sales around the 380 cent mark.
