Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at the last week of livestock markets in Dubbo for 2025, with only the sheep market to report on this week.
This week there was 15500 lambs and 13000 mutton.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
To the lambs firstly, where it was a much more mixed yarding that previous weeks, with the market only just firm to $10 cheaper with quality being the issue. However, the market despite being a little softer was still very good.
Into young lambs or suckers firstly, with light weights up to 16kg dressed $135 to $195 to kill, or $140 to $150 to restockers.
Up to 18kg dressed $190 to $200
Medium trade in limited supply $215 to $230, with restocker drafts making up to $220
Heavy trade or light export $231 to $270 and they also were in short supply
Into older crossbred sales, up to 18kg dressed $170 to $195
Light trade $178 to $220
Medium trade $200 to $255
With heavy trade or light export $230 to $265
With export drafts up to 26kg dressed $230 to $288
With heavy weights up to 30kg $260 to $314 but generally either side of $300
With super heavies over 30kg dressed in shorter supply but seeing sales between $325 and $338
To Merino’s, up to 16kg dressed $120 to $160 but mainly around the $130 mark
Up to 18kg dressed $164 to $200
Light trade $200 to $215
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following lambs for some of their clients –
Firstly, locally for the Cooper Family at Eumungerie, who sold light trade weight Dorper lambs for $178.
At Coolabah for Dave Jackson & Tammy Martin, who sold very tidy Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition to the trade butchers and they made $200.
And lastly at Baradine for Marty & Amanda Johnston, who sold light trade weight Dorper lambs in a rounded condition for $182.
To the mutton pens now, where the market was softer by up to $5 to $10 cheaper for most categories despite it being a very good yarding of mutton.
Boner ewes $108 to $120
Medium weights $130 to $196 but mainly around $160 for Merino’s or $133 to $165 for crossbreds
Export weights up to 30kg dressed $195 to $218 for crossbreds or $185 to $236 but mainly either side of $200 for Merino’s
With the super heavies this week and mainly being crossbreds seeing sales between $219 and $250 with this week’s top price getting to $308 for a super heavy pen of 1st cross ewes.
Wethers were in shorter supply with medium weights $158 to $177
With export weights over 24kg dressed $220 to $235 and all Merino’s
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following mutton for their clients –
Locally for John Blease of “Tanners Creek”, who sold export weight Dorper ewes, in a 4 score condition and these top heavy ewes made $240.
Greg & Sally-Ann Whillock of “Murga”, who sold large framed export weight 1st cross ewes, in a 4 score condition and these to ewes made $251.
To the Marra for Simon & Kelly Earl, who sold large framed export weight Merino ewes, with an 8 week skin and these top ewes made $213.
Lastly to Tottenham for The Plummer Family of “Trigoona”, who sold large framed Merino ewes with a 1 ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition and these top ewes made $216.
Well that about wraps it up for this year, the 2026 markets in Dubbo commence with the sheep & lambs on Monday 5th January and the first cattle sale on Thursday 11th January.
