Fat Cattle Report
Good Morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the first time in 2026.
Tallied numbers this week included:
3300 fat cattle,
13000 lambs and
5000 mutton.
Into the cattle pens firstly, where the first sale back produced a good quality yarding with all grades represented. Good numbers of yearlings to suit the backgrounders and feeders along with lines of weaners to suit the restockers. Cows were well supplied as were grown steers and heifers.
Young cattle to the trade were firm with prime yearlings selling from 414c - 470c/kg. Feeder steers also remained firm to sell from 475c - 510c/kg while the feeder heifers lifted 15 cents to sell from 420c - 467c/kg. Restockers were limited in their activity at the rail with young steers selling to 510 cents and young heifers reaching 478 cents.
Grown steers lost 7 cents to sell from 433c - 475c/kg and grown heifers stayed firm to sell from 413c - 468c/kg. Cows were up to 20 cents stronger, with the better heavy cows selling from 398c - 428c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 396 cents.

Locally for the Elliott Family of ‘Victoria Park’ at Dubbo who sold Angus x steers for 480 cents, weighing 485kgs to return $2328.
Christopher Quinn of ‘Caroo’ sold Angus steers for 502 cents, weighing 458kgs to come back at $2303.
The Hegarty family of ‘Belvedere’ at Cassilis sold Angus heifers to the feeder orders for 446 cents, weighing 380kgs to return $1695.
The Cosgrove Family of ‘Mylone’ at Warren sold Angus x steers for 488 cents, weighing 424kgs to come back at $2070.
To Nyngan for David & Therese Carter of ‘Wilgaree’ sold Angus Cows for 418 cents, weighing 688kgs to return $2878.
The Gibson Family of ‘Wilgadale’ sold Hereford x steers for 436 cents, weighing 329kg to return $1435.
Lastly for Noel & Lynette Dunn of ‘Bundong Station’ at Coolabah who sold 4 tooth Romagnola Heifers for 468 cents, weighing 615kgs to return $2879.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now where a nice quality yarding greeted agents and buyers alike for the first time back in 2026. There were limited numbers of extra heavy weights on offer with trade and heavy weights making up the bulk of the yarding. Merino lambs were short on supply yet there was plenty of hoggets on offer in a dearer market compared to the last sale of 2025.
Lightweight lambs were $6 better, selling from $130 - $184. Trade lambs were $5 stronger selling from $250 - $270. Heavy weights lambs were $10 dearer, selling from $290 - $340 while extra heavy lambs lifted by $15 to sell to a top of $355. Trade weight merino lambs were firm and sold from $180 - $250. The best heavy hoggets sold to a top of $297.

To Geurie now for Kevin Olsen of ‘Mindanao’ sold Suffolk x lambs in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $256.
The Whillock Family of ‘Maxland’ sold heavy 2nd x lambs in a 4 score condition for $350.
The McKay family of ‘Winnabri’ at Trangie sold young 1st x lambs in a 2/3 score condition with an inch skin for $190
The Hoare family of ‘Karabran’ at Nyngan sold SAMM hoggets in a 4 score condition with a 6 week skin for $288.
The Mannix Family of ‘Gumbooka’ at Bourke sold fresh Dorper lambs in a 4 score condition to the export orders for $300.
Into the mutton pens now where limited numbers were on offer in a firm to slightly dearer market.
Light ewes sold from $80 - $140
Medium weight ewes sold from $160 - $198
Heavy weights lambs ewes sold from $210 - $277
Light wethers sold from $130 - $160
Medium weight wethers sold from $170 - $210
Heavy wethers sold from $224 - $278

To Warren now for Simon & Kelly Earl of ‘Longstowe’ sold Merino ewes in a 3/4 score condition with a half inch skin for $238.
Matthew Scott of ‘Gum Valley’ sold extra heavy Dorper ewes in a 4/5 score condition for $262.
The Herbert Family of ‘Lynjoy’ at Nyngan sold Dorper ewes in a 4 score condition for $240.
