Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Sam Knaggs taking a look at this week’s livestock market out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of October, 2025. 

There was only a fat cattle sale this week with 7000 head yarded.

Numbers eased slightly but quality remained strong this week.  There was a good number of prime cattle across all categories, along with suitable lines for feeder and restocker interest.  While some processor and feeder buyers were not operating, the overall market remained steady.

Young Cattle

Young cattle to the trade were mostly firm to 5 cents cheaper, with prime vealers and yearlings selling from 420 to 490c/kg. 

Lightweight feeder steers held firm, while heavier steers and heifers eased 10 to 15 cents.  Overall feeder steers sold from 430 to 534c/kg and heifers from 390 to 460c/kg.

Young cattle to the restocker finished strong, with steers going back to the paddock for 584c/kg and heifers 470c/kg.

Grown Cattle 

Grown steers and heifers were 20 cents cheaper, with prime grown steers selling from 430 -500c/kg, while prime heavy heifers sold from 410 - 455c/kg.

Cows 

Cows finished firm to 5 cents cheaper, with plain 2 and 3 score restocker cows selling from 238 to 340c/kg and prime high yielding cows selling between 365 and 410c/kg, to average 390c/kg.

Bulls

The best heavy bull reached a top of 410c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -

Firstly to Nyngan for Dave & Terese Carter of ‘Wilgaree’, who sold Angus steers for 500 cents, weighing 630kg to return $3170.

Breil & Bernadette Jackson of ‘Bogan River Downs’, sold Angus cows for 410 cents, weighing 730kg to return $3000.  On the same truck Angus steers for 594 cents, weighing 330kg to return $1960.

James & Michele Hegarty of ‘Ulundry’ at Coonamble, sold Angus heifers for 445 cents, weighing 678kg to return $3020.

Lastly for George Holland of ‘Avondale’ at Goolma, who sold Angus heifers for 460 cents, weighing 420kg to return $1950.
