Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this week's livestock markets out of Dubbo for the third week of October, 2025.
Tallied numbers this week included –
6800 fat cattle
28000 lambs and
12000 grown sheep
Into the cattle pens firstly where there was another large number on offer with all categories represented. The market in general was 10 cents cheaper for most, with secondary cattle seeing rates up to 20 cents cheaper, but I must say there were some excellent cattle yarded this week, on what I believe is still a good market.
Vealer steers to restockers this week saw most sales between 420 and 500 cents with most sales around the 470 cent mark, with the heifers to re-stockers 355 to 440 cents for the light weights or 380 to 425 cents for the heavier drafts either side of 300kg live.
Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 369 to 450 for the crossbreds, or 440 to 487 cents for the Angus drafts. Heavy weights over 400kg 432 to 497 cents with the majority around 470 cents. Kill drafts saw sales between 380 and 475 cents.
Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed 405 to 450 cents, but mainly around 430 cents, with heavier weights over 400kg 396 to 455 cents, with kill drafts 410 to 450 cents.
To export sales with heavy feeder steers up to 600kg 445 to 492 cents with the top end being Angus drafts, with most sales around 470 cents, with young bullocks to kill 440 to 470 cents with that top end being very good.
Export heifers saw most sales between 410 and 450 cents.
Boner cows 290 to 330 cents and mainly to restockers, medium weight cows 315 to 370 cents, with heavy high yielding cows 370 to 400 cents but mainly around the 385 cent mark.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh had the following cattle results for clients this week -
For the Hegarty family at Coonamble, who sold export weight Angus heifers in prime condition, with their 4 teeth for 438 cents, they weighed 600kg and these top heifers came back at $2625.
At Nyngan for John & Mary Burley of “Woodlands Station”, who sold fresh young steers to backgrounders for 460 cents, they weighed 360kg to return $1640.
The McLaughlin family of “Merryanbone”, sold a wonderful line of young Angus steers with the lead pen weighing 590kg for 492 cents and these top steers returned $2905.
The Butler family of “Jamberoo” at Girilambone, sold very forward fresh Black Baldy steers to feedlotters for 449 cents, they weighed 500kg and these top steers came back at $2250.
For David Hagarty and Claire Kesby, who sold prime Angus cross cows for 395 cents, they weighed 670kg and these top cows came back at $2640.
While for a northern vendor prime young Santa cross bullocks made 471 cents for 645kg and these top steers came back at $3085.

Into the lamb pens now where there was a large number on offer with 2 weeks worth of numbers due to the long weekend. The market in general was $5 - $10 cheaper for most categories with the secondary drafts up to $15 cheaper with export suckers firm , with some excellent drafts offered this week.
Into the suckers firstly with light restocker types $125 -$170 Light trade $192 - $235
Trade weights $253 - $286 with the fresher drafts seeing sales up to $305
With export weights $280 - $336 with as mentioned some very good drafts offered.
Into older crossbred sales with light kill types 16kg dressed $136 - $162
Up to 18kg dressed $180 - $198
Light trade $200 - $236
Medium trade $190 - $275 with most sale around $230
Heavy trade or light export $244 - $285
Up to 26kg dressed $260 - $320 Up 30kg dressed $286 - $330
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $375 - $387.
To Merino’s lightweights to 16kg dressed $108 - $166 with most sales around $145 Up to 18kg $149 - $210 with the majority around $170
Light trade $160 - $225 Medium trade $200 - $248
Heavy trade / light export $210 - $295 but mainly around $270
With drafts up to 26kg dressed seeing sale up to $286
With drafts up to 30kg dressed seeing sales between $300 and $333.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh had the following lamb results for clients this week -
Locally for the Whillock family of “Maxland” at Geurie, who sold export weight 2nd cross lambs with an inch skin, in a prime 4 score condition and these top lambs made $387.
For Greg and Sally-Ann Whillock who sold export weight shorn suckers with a fresh 6 to 8 week skin, in a 3 score condition and these top lambs made $340.
The Walters family of “Plain Creek” at Wongarbon, sold export weight suckers in a top 3 score condition and these top lambs made $315.
At Nyngan for Wok and Margaret Herbert, who sold trade weight Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition and these tidy lambs made $222.
To Hermidale for the Dewhurst family of “Elmsley”, who sold trade weight crossbred lambs with an inch skin and they made $232.
While for a Northern vendor, heavy trade weight Dorper lambs in a tidy 3 score condition and they made $243.
To the mutton pens now where the market was up to $20 cheaper on the back of some strong weeks prior to this week and could have been more in places on the medium weights but gee we have seen prices a lot less than what we are getting now not too long ago - still looks solid to me.
Light boner ewes $70 - $100 Boner ewes $80 - $128
Medium weights $138 - $178 for Merino’s or $155 - $178 for crossbreds.
With export weights up to 30kg dressed $173 - $225 but mainly either side of $200 for Merino’s or $196 - $219 for crossbreds
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $213 - $236 for Merino’s or $205 - $260 for crossbreds.
Boner wethers $122 - $145 Medium weights $143 - $187
Export weights up to 30kg dressed $183 - $216 all Merino’s
With super heavies over 39kg dressed $183 - $243.
Just some quick quotes for Carter Lindsay & McHugh clients this week -
Locally for the Holland family of “Avondale” at Goolma, who sold large framed Merino ewes with an inch skin, in a 3 score condition to the exporters for $198.
While for the McKay family of “Winnabri” at Warren, who sold large framed Merino ewes with a 2 inch skin, also to exporters, in a 3 score condition and they made $ $210.
