Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Campbell Rose from Carter Lindsay & McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of May 2026. Tallied numbers this week included –

2,400 fat cattle  

18,600 lambs &

4,600 mutton

 After good rain earlier in the week, cattle numbers increased by 3,500, with 2,455 head yarded. Most of the cattle were cows and weaner calves, along with some young cattle for feeder and trade buyers. There were also a few well-finished grown steers and heifers available.

Young cattle prices increased, with trade buyers paying 25c/kg more. Prime vealers and yearlings sold between 420c and 500c/kg.

Feeder steers were 25c/kg dearer, selling from 416c to 534c/kg. Feeder heifers were up to 35c/kg higher, selling from 418c to 507c/kg.

Restocker buyers also paid more, with young steers reaching 556c/kg and young heifers up to 480c/kg.

Prices for grown steers and heifers lifted by up to 10c/kg. Prime grown steers sold from 430c to 450c/kg, while prime grown heifers sold up to 470c/kg.

Cow prices increased by 20c to 30c/kg. Medium-quality cows sold from 270c to 368c/kg, while prime heavy cows sold from 348c to 403c/kg, averaging 384c/kg.

Cows bought by restockers sold from 265c to 341c/kg, and heavy bulls sold up to 420c/kg.

Carter Lindsay and McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -

Firstly, Sam & Lauren Renneberg of Dubbo sold Angus feeder heifers for 479c, weighing 455kg, returning $2,180.

Leanne & Luke Hangan of ‘Nagnah Downs’ Dubbo. Sold Store Angus cows for 324c, weighing 420kg, returning $1,361.

Rob & Camilla Lane of ‘Keveline’ Carinda. Sold Angus yearling heifers for 502c, weighing 363kg. Returning $1,824.

  

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now. Where numbers reduced by 3400 for a yarding of 18620 lambs. It was only a fair quality yarding with odd pens of well finished trade and heavy weight lambs throughout along with large numbers of lightweight lambs lacking condition. Most of the regular buyers were operating along with additional restocker support from the south.   Lightweight lambs to the processors were $15 dearer with the 12kg to 18kg 2 scores selling from $170 to $220/head. Trade weight lambs were $14 dearer with the 20kg to 24kg lambs selling from $210 to $295/head. Heavy weight lambs were firm to $8 dearer with the lambs over 24kg selling from $280 to $342/head. The few trade weight Merino lambs were $5 dearer selling from $198 to $246/head. Lambs to the restockers and feeders were $15 dearer with the feeders paying from $184 to $268 while the restockers paid from $95 to $251/head. Merino hoggets sold to $295/head.  There were 4655 mixed mutton yarded where most grades were $15 to $20 dearer. Merino ewes sold from $84 to $286 while crossbred ewes sold from $140 to $317/head. Merino wethers sold from $168 to $288 while very heavy crossbred wethers sold to $320/head.

 Carter Lindsay and McHugh sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -

Firstly, Craig and Kerry Walters of ‘Plain Creek’ Wongarbon. Sold Merino ewes with an inch skin for $256.

Graham Baker of ‘Rosedail’ Dubbo. Sold heavy trade xb lambs for $270.

Barry & Dolly Betts of ‘The Peak Station’ Cobar. Sold CFA Merino Wethers for $287

And Lastly, The Steele Family of ‘Mundadoo’ Girilambone. Sold Cull Merino Rams for $200.
