Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Sam Knaggs taking a look at this week’s livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of September, 2026.
Tallied numbers this week included -
4600 fat cattle
22000 lambs and
5400 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where numbers increased a little this week. The yarding quality this week saw good lines of prime cattle reflecting the season. Not all buyers were operating with a few feeder orders absent.
Young Cattle
Young cattle to the trade were mostly firm with prime vealers and yearlings selling from 450 to 552c/kg.
Feeders steers this week finished 10 cents cheaper, while feeder heifers finished the day firm, with the overall feeder steers selling from 455 to 584c/kg and the feeder heifers sold from 408 to 554c/kg.
Young cattle to the restocker finished firm, with steers selling to 658c/kg and heifers 588c/kg.
Grown Cattle
Grown steers and heifers were firm to 2 cents dearer, with prime grown steers selling 448 to 490 cents, while prime grown heifers sold from 430 - 480c/kg
Cows
2 and 3 score cows finished firm to 5 cents dearer, selling from 338 to 395c/kg and prime high yielding cows sold between 400 and 433c/kg, to average 418c/kg.
Bulls
The best heavy bull reached a top of 448c/kg
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients –
The Wippell Family of ‘Wandeen’ at Narromine, sold grown Angus/Charolais heifers for 470 cents, they weighed 602kg to return $2831, they also sold cows for 431 cents, weighing 626kg to return $2700.
Keighan Hall of ‘Sungai’ at Burroway, sold feeder Angus heifers for 526 cents, weighing 425kg to return $2240.
The Whillock family of ‘Murga’ at Geurie, sold restocker Angus steers for 612 cents, weighing 213kg to return $1300.
Lastly for The Peacock family of ‘Gentle Rise’ at Mogriguy, who sold heavy Charolais heifers for 480 cents, weighing 640kg to return $3080.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where the quality remained fair, with similar numbers to last week. There was nearly half the yarding of Merino’s on offer compared to the previous week. New season lambs were still limited in supply. Trade and heavy weight lambs were well supplied throughout the day, with the overall market firm to dearer across the board.
New season trade lambs sold from $242 to $284 with heavy new season lambs reaching $335.
Old trade weight lambs 18kg to 24kg finished firm to sell from $242 to $318 to average 1160 cents.
Heavy weight old lambs finished the day also firm selling from $291 to $352.
While lambs over 30kg reached a top of $413.
Trade weight Merino lambs this week sold from $210 to $287 and the heavy weight Merino lambs sold out to a top of $314.
In the sheep pens, the mutton yarded covered most categories with sheep selling up to $10 dearer.
Light weight ewes sold from $120 - $180
Medium weight ewes sold from $190 - $250
Heavy weight ewes sold from $260 - $388
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -
The Kelly Family of ‘Blackdowns’ at Wongarbon, sold heavy new season lambs for $335.
The McFetridge Family of ‘Tathra’ at Dubbo, sold heavy Aussie White lambs for $300.
Richard and Dixie Stendell of ‘Ben Avon’ at Brewarrina, sold heavy crossbred lambs for $325.
And lastly for The Steele family of ‘Mundadoo’ at Girilambone, who sold heavy Merino ewes for $318.
