Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Campbell Rose taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week of September 2026.
Tallied numbers this week included –
4000 fat cattle
22000 lambs &
3000 mutton
There was a big increase in numbers this week, with mixed quality and a large amount of western cattle in the yarding. There were a few pens of weaners and plenty of feeder cattle, with trade buyers being more selective.
Grown steers and bullocks were limited, and despite the much larger yarding, there were very few heavy prime grown heifers. Around 750 cows were offered, with the market generally selling to a stronger trend.
Weaner prices increased by 15 to 20c/kg, with medium-weight steers reaching 665c/kg and similar-weight heifers reaching 564c/kg.
Feeder steers were around 20c/kg stronger, with medium and heavy weights selling from 510c to 608c/kg. Feeder heifers were 13c/kg better on average, selling between 488 and 548c/kg.
Trade cattle were around 10c/kg cheaper, with better-shaped C-muscle cattle selling from 500 to 540c/kg.
Prime grown steers and bullocks were 5c/kg softer, reaching 488c/kg. Heavy heifers were down 10c/kg, selling from 456 to 480c/kg.
Heavy cows were 10c to 13c/kg stronger, with higher-yielding cows selling from 395 to 431c/kg. A pen of Limousin C-muscle cows reached 440c/kg.
Leaner 2-score cows were 8c/kg cheaper, selling from 330 to 384c/kg.
The best heavy bulls sold to 451c/kg.
Carter Lindsay and McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Firstly, The Koerstz Family of ‘Warrie’ at Dubbo, sold heavy Angus steers for 536 cents, weighing 554kg to return $2972.
Gordon O’Neill of ‘Nellady’ at Trangie, sold Hereford restocker steers for 538 cents, weighing 341kg to return $1836.
And lastly for the Young Family of ‘Pinegrove’ at Nyngan, who sold Angus feeder steers for 564 cents, weighing 429kg to return $2423.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Numbers lifted by 5000 for a yarding of 22000 lambs. It was a fair quality yarding with reasonable numbers of trade lambs along with some good runs of heavy weights. There were also good numbers of well finished Merino lambs and exotics. A full field of buyers competed solidly throughout the sale.
Trade weight new season lambs were $6 dearer selling from $220 to $300 to average 1190c/kg cwt.
Trade weight old lambs were $8 to $14 dearer with the 20kg to 24kg lambs selling from $234 to $300.
Heavy weight lambs were $8 dearer with the 24kg to 30kg lambs selling from $270 to $349.
Lambs over 30kg sold to $390.
Heavy weight new season lambs sold to $323.
Merino lambs were $6 to $15 dearer with trade weights selling from $183 to $306 while the heavy weight Merino lambs have sold to $329.
Lambs to the restockers have held firm with the crossbreds and exotics going back to the paddock selling from $120 to $271.
The feeders have paid to $273.
Hoggets sold to $327.
There was mostly good quality mutton yarded, where most grades were $10 dearer.
Merino ewes sold from $110 to $320 while crossbred ewes sold from $208 to $380.
Merino wethers sold from $158 to $266 while Dorper wethers sold to $343.
The restockers paid $128 and $149 for Merino ewes and $203 for Merino wethers.
Carter Lindsay and McHugh sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -
Firstly, the Millner Family of ‘Geurie Homestead’ at Geurie, sold heavy crossbred lambs with an inch skin for $345.
Chris & Bec O’Malley of ‘Carinya’ at Narromine, sold heavy crossbred ewes for $322.
And Lastly for Brian & Maree Plummer of ‘Trigoona’ at Tottenham, who sold heavy crossbred lambs, bare shorn for $349.
