Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the last week of August 2026.
Tallied numbers this week included –
1300 fat cattle,
18000 lambs and
6000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where some decent falls of rain throughout the supply area reduced numbers but lifted prices across all grades.
Prime steer vealers gained 20 cents and sold to a top of 624 cents, while the heifer portion jumped 40 cents, to sell to a top of 534 cents.
Feeder steers and heifers were 20 cents better with the steer portion selling from 550 - 600 cents, while the heifers sold from 496 - 540 cents.
Prime grown cattle were limited in numbers, yet sold to strong demand, with the steer portion selling from 475 - 492 cents, while the heifer portion sold from 440 - 488 cents.
Cows remained firm with the better D3/4 cows selling to a top of 425 cents.
The best heavy bull reached a top of 427 cents.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Locally for The Baker Family of ‘Rosedail’, who sold 6 tooth Angus heifers for 474 cents, weighing 690kg to return $3271.
And for Sam & Penny Deshon of ‘Rocklee’ at Wellington, who sold Angus heifers for 528 cents, weighing 504kg to return $2663.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now where numbers were back as was the quality. Good numbers of heavy and extra heavy lambs were on offer while trade weights were limited in supply. The market sold to strong demands on last week’s good rates, with Merino lambs lifting $10 across the board.
New season trade weights were limited in supply and sold from $278 - $304.
Old season trade weights sold from $210 - $263, while the heavy trades sold from $270 - $310.
Heavy lambs remained firm from last week to sell from $290 - $328, while extra heavy lambs sold to a top of $380.
Merino trade weights sold from $215 - $269 and heavy trade weights selling to $291. A pen of extra heavy lambs topped at $350.
The best heavy hoggets reached a top of $335.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following lambs for some of their clients -
The O’Malley family of ‘Carinya’ at Narromine, sold 2nd cross suckers in a fresh 3 score condition for $278.
The Pugh Family of ‘Gundong’ at Tomingley, sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin to the domestic kill for $269.
Lastly for The Plummer Family of ‘Trigoona’ at Tottenham, who sold heavy 1st cross wether lambs in a 4 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $360.
Into the mutton pens now where prices lifted across all grades.
Light ewes sold from $135 - $190
Medium weight ewes sold from $210 - $270
Heavy ewes sold from $285 - $330 with an extra heavy pen selling to $350
Light wethers sold from $145 - $180
Medium weight wethers sold from $200 - $250
Heavy wethers sold from $263 - $285.

Just a quick quote for the Young Family of ‘Pinegrove’ at Nyngan, who sold heavy crossbred ewes in a 4 score condition for $328.
