Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon everybody this is John Lindsay with this week’s livestock reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of October 2026.

Tallied numbers this week included -

 6100 cattle
24000 lambs and
6000 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly with a slightly larger number on offer this week on what I must say was a very good quality yarding of most categories.  The market in general was firm to 10 cents dearer, more so on the feeder steers particularly on the crossbred drafts on what was still a very strong market.

Light vealer steers to restockers 582 - 675 cents, with the heavier drafts 480 - 652 cents.

Light vealer heifers also to restockers 470 - 526 cents.

Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers 530-615 cents, with the feeders 484-578 cents with the top end being your Angus drafts.

Heavier drafts over 400kg to the feeders 490-530 for the crossbreds or 540-570 for the Angus drafts.

Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed 450 - 506 cents, with the majority around 485 cents, with the heavier drafts over 400kg 454 - 497 cents, with most sales around 480 - 490 cents.  But bearing in mind the PTE heifers are at the top of this category.

To export sales which were very strong which as mentioned some very good cattle on offer.

Young bullocks up to 4 teeth 480-500 cents, with mature aged bullocks 450-470 cents.

Heavy kill heifers 450 - 470 cents if they were up to 4 teeth and well covered, with older drafts seeing sales up to 460 cents.

Cows were once again strong with boner cows 280 - 340 cents, medium weights 360 -396 cents, with heavy high yielding cows 380 - 415  cents with this week’s top price getting to 422 cents.
