Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Sam Knaggs taking a look at this week’s livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of October 2026, with only the cattle to report on this week due to the labour day long weekend. A total of 4800 cattle were yarded. Numbers eased slightly yarding 600 cattle less than the previous week. The yarding quality this week saw good lines of prime cattle along with fair numbers of feeder and backgrounders. Overall, the market reminded very positive with most categories lifting 5 to 15 cents due to strong competition on the rail.
Young Cattle
Young cattle to the trade were 8 cents dearer, with prime vealers and yearlings selling from 435 to 520c/kg.
Light weight feeders steers and heifers met strong demand selling up to 15 cents dearer. While the heavy weights were firm.
Feeder steers sold from 468 to 593c/kg and the heifers from 410 to 520c/kg
Young cattle to the restocker finished 6 cents dearer, with steers selling to 625c/kg and heifers 510c/kg.
Grown Cattle
Grown steers and heifers were dearer by 18 cents with prime grown steers selling from 417 to 500 cents, while prime grown heifers sold from 415 - 496c/kg.
Cows
Cows finished the day 15 cents dearer with 2 and 3 score cows selling from 305 to 388c/kg and prime high yielding cows sold between 380 and 422c/kg, to average 397c/kg.
Bulls
The best heavy bull reached a top of 445c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Firstly, for The Weston family at Warren, who sold Angus feeder steers for 540 cents, weighing 460kg to return $2500. They also sold Angus feeder heifers for 508 cents. weighing 430kg to return $2200.
A Northern Client sold 4 tooth Santa cross steers for 499 cents, weighing 611kg to return $3050 and in the same consignment - heavy Santa cross cows for 422 cents, weighing 615kg to return $2600.
Mitch Butler of ‘Jamberoo’ at Nyngan, sold grown Hereford heifers for 496 cents, weighing 640kg to return $3175.
Lastly for A local client, who sold restocker Angus cross steers for 552 cents, weighing 205kg to return $1140, while the heifer portion made 480 cents, weighing 185kg to return $900.

• The Year Born on Sheep Declarations must be provided
• A brand must be provided for Cattle if they have one
• PIC OR BRAND ON EAR TAGS MUST BE PROVIDED FOR SHEEP IF THEY ARE NOT VENDOR BRED
• The total number of head needs to be written down (located at the bottom of the table provided)
