Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Campbell Rose taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week of October, 2026.
Tallied numbers this week included –
5300 fat cattle
23000 lambs &
5700 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly where there were 670 more cattle, with a good-quality yarding.
There were good numbers of prime cattle and cattle suitable for feeders. There were also plenty of weaners, which were in strong demand from restockers because rain was expected.
Young cattle for the trade were steady. Prime vealers and yearlings sold for 440–520c/kg.
Feeder steers were 10c/kg dearer, selling for 460–566c/kg.
Feeder heifers were 20–30c/kg dearer, selling for 432–518c/kg.
Young cattle for restockers were up to 30c/kg dearer. Young steers sold up to 596c/kg, while young heifers sold up to 520c/kg.
Grown steers and heifers were 8c/kg dearer. Prime grown steers sold for 400–482c/kg, while grown heifers sold for 430–468c/kg.
Cows were 4–5c/kg dearer. Cows sold to processors for 330–378c/kg.
Heavy prime cows sold for 370–400c/kg, averaging 383c/kg.
Cows sold to restockers were 35c/kg dearer, selling for 340–390c/kg.
Heavy bulls sold for up to 425c/kg.
Lightweight bull calves were in strong demand from restockers and sold for up to 600c/kg.
Carter Lindsay and McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Firstly, Kim Grattan of ‘Mentone’ at Dubbo, sold Angus restocker heifers for 512 cents, weighing 281kg to return $1439.
Rob & Camilla Lane of ‘Keveline’ at Coonamble, sold Angus feeder steers for 558 cents, weighing 456kg to return $2545
Simon and Kelly Earl of ‘Longstowe’ at Warren, sold export Angus heifers for 466 cents, weighing 565kg to return $2632.
And lastly for Col & Beryl Leigo of ‘Moorland Downs’ at Bourke, who sold heavy Santa cross bullocks for 445 cents, weighing 685kg to return $3052.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where the overall quality was only fair, with some lambs starting to show the effects of the dry conditions. However, there were still plenty of well-finished lambs. Some regular buyers were not operating, including one southern and one northern export processor.
New season trade lambs: Prices were $9 lower, selling from $210 to $293, averaging 1080c/kg cwt.
Old season trade lambs: Prices were $5–$10 lower. Lambs weighing 20–24kg sold from $200 to $285.
Heavy lambs: Prices were $10 higher. Lambs over 24kg sold from $275 to $390, averaging 1130–1165c/kg cwt.
Heavy new season lambs: Sold for up to $315.
Trade weight Merino lambs: Prices were $11 lower, selling from $175 to $270.
Restocker lambs: Prices were $10 lower. Crossbred and exotic lambs sold from $140 to $248, while feeders paid up to $257.
Merino lambs for restocking: Sold from $68 to $171.
Hoggets: Sold for up to $276.
Into the mutton now, where light and medium weight sheep were $12 dearer, while the better heavy sheep were $2–$4 cheaper.
Merino ewes: $112 – $289
Crossbred ewes: $220 – $312
Merino wethers: $138 – $278
Carter Lindsay and McHugh sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -
Firstly, Dave & Tracey Whillock of ‘Murga’ at Geurie, who sold fresh 2nd cross suckers for $266.
Phil and Debra Bell of ‘Barney’s’ at Mendooran, sold trade weight Sheepmaster lambs for $264.
The Jackson Family of ‘Bogan River Downs’ at Nyngan, sold fresh Dorper suckers for $285.
And Lastly for Brian & Maree Plummer of ‘Trigoona’ at Tottenham, who sold trade weight crossbred lambs for $264.

• MIXED IS NOT A SEX – THE CATTLE MUST BE BROKEN UP TO WHAT HAS BEEN CONSIGNED EG # HEIFERS, #STEERS, #COWS, #BULLS
• The Year Born on Sheep Declarations must be provided
• A brand must be provided for Cattle if they have one
• PIC OR BRAND ON EAR TAGS MUST BE PROVIDED FOR SHEEP IF THEY ARE NOT VENDOR BRED
• The total number of head needs to be written down (located at the bottom of the table provided)
