Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this at Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 4th week of September, 2026.
Tallied numbers this week included –
6000 fat cattle,
20000 lambs &
6000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where numbers keep rolling in. It was a mixed quality yarding with good numbers of prime cattle in all selections, as well as large runs of plainer cattle in from the North. What we are seeing is that cattle with weight and cover are selling well, yet those without are getting the price correction.
Young cattle to the trade sold firm with prime vealers and yearlings selling from 405 - 526c/kg.
Feeder cattle remained strong, with steers selling from 430 - 569c/kg. Feeder heifers sold from 400 - 500c/kg.
Young cattle to the restockers are still in demand for the better bred, quality cattle with steers selling to 612 cents and heifers reaching 510 cents.
Prime grown steers sold from 430 - 481c/kg and prime grown heifers sold from 410 - 470c/kg.
Cows were cheaper this week. The better D3/4 cows selling from 368 - 392c/kg.
The best heavy bull reached a top of 448 cents.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Kim Grattan of ‘Tintinvale’ at Tomingley, sold Angus cows for 370 cents, weighing 553kg for $2046.
The Atkinson family of ‘Wonga’ at Yeoval, sold Santa cows for 367 cents, weighing 558kg to return $2049.
The Hegarty family of ‘Ulundry’ at Coonamble, sold heavy Angus cross heifers for 467 cents, weighing 626kg to return $2925.
To Nyngan now for David & Terese Carter of ‘Wilgaree’, who sold Angus heifers for 460 cents, weighing 574kg to return $2642.
The Jackson Family of ‘Bogan River Downs’, sold Angus steers for 540 cents, they weighed 516kg to return $2786.
And lastly for Bill Murray of ‘Multagoona Cottage’ at Bourke, who sold crossbred steers for 436 cents, weighing 455kg to return $1984.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where a fair quality yarding greeted buyers, with a few pens of new season lambs along with good runs of well finished old lambs and like last week there were large runs of Merino lambs on offer in what was a firm to slightly cheaper market.
Trade weight new season lambs sold from $208 - $290.
Trade weight old season lambs sold from $210 - $280.
Heavy weight old season lambs sold from $274 - $388
While the heavy new season lambs sold to a top of $310.
Merino trade weight lambs sold from $195 - $255, while heavy Merino lambs sold from $274 - $297.
Lambs to the restocker sold to limited competition and reached $258 to go back to the paddock and the best heavy hoggets reached a top of $290.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following lambs for some of their clients -
To Tottenham firstly, for The Plummer Family of ‘Trigoona’, who sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $255.
The Weber Family of ‘Kia-Ora’, sold Merino lambs in a 2/3 score condition to for $174.
The Bryan Family of ‘Newe Park’ at Warren, sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $260.
The Stendell Family of ‘Ben Avon’ at Brewarrina, sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $205.
Lastly for Jon Pocknell of ‘Springvale Station’ at Walgett, who sold Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition to the domestic orders for $242.
Into the mutton pens now where, the market was firm to slightly dearer.
Light ewes sold from $120 - $174
Medium weight ewes sold from $190 - $244
Heavy weight ewes sold from $259 - $315
Extra heavy ewes sold to $350
Light wethers sold from $150 - $164
Medium weight wethers sold from $180 - $223
Heavy weight wethers sold from $250 - $288.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following mutton for some of their clients -
The Kelly Family of ‘Blackdowns’ at Wongarbon, sold extra heavy crossbred ewes in a 4 score condition for $344.
The Pugh Family of ‘Gundong’ at Tomingley, sold heavy Merino wethers in a 4 score condition, with an inch skin to the export orders for a sale topping $288.
The Hoare Family of ‘Bel-Air’ at Nyngan, sold SAMM cross ewes in a 4 score condition, with an inch skin for $280.
And lastly for The Betts Family of ‘The Peak Station’ at Cobar, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with an 6 week skin for $268.

• Breed and Sex of the livestock must be provided –
• PLEASE NOTE THAT EURO, XB OR CROSSBRED ARE NOT A BREED OF CATTLE
• MIXED IS NOT A SEX – THE CATTLE MUST BE BROKEN UP TO WHAT HAS BEEN CONSIGNED EG # HEIFERS, #STEERS, #COWS, #BULLS
• The Year Born on Sheep Declarations must be provided
• A brand must be provided for Cattle if they have one
• PIC OR BRAND ON EAR TAGS MUST BE PROVIDED FOR SHEEP IF THEY ARE NOT VENDOR BRED
• The total number of head needs to be written down (located at the bottom of the table provided)
When filling out your NVD please ensure you complete and answer each question - please also ensure you sign and date the NVD.
If you make a mistake please initial it.
