Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the third week of February, 2026. 

Tallied numbers this week included –

6500 fat cattle
20000 lambs and
11000 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a slightly larger yarding than last week, on what was a mixed yarding with all categories represented.  The market in general was just firm for most, with light weight feeder steers and heifers up to 10 cents cheaper, with heavier feeders over 400kg slightly dearer, with cows enjoying dearer trends of 5 to 10 cents.

Light vealer steers under 200kg to restockers 435 to 500 cents, with the majority 470 to 480 cents.  Heavier drafts up to 300kg also to restockers 424 to 530 cents, with the majority around the 480 to 490 cents – with the top end being your Angus drafts.

Vealer heifers to restockers 340 to 400 cents, with the majority around 370 cents. 

Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers 450 to 535 cents, with the majority either side of 500 cents – again the top end being Angus drafts or fresh crossbred drafts.  Heavier drafts over 400kg and up to 500kg 465 to 500 cents, with the majority around 490 cents. 

Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed 380 to 465 cents, with only the fresh drafts managing to get over 400 cents but mainly all around 430 cents.  Heavier drafts over 400kg 410 to 450 cents.

Into export sales, heavy feeder steers were in short supply but seeing sales between 450 and 467 cents, with suitable kill drafts seeing similar sales due to a shortage. 

Export heifers to kill 416 to 456 cents, but like the steers in short supply.

Light boner cows 180 to 250 cents, boner cows 260 to 340 cents, medium weight cows 318 to 376 cents but mainly around the 350 cent mark, with heavy high yielding cows 360 to 400 cents but mainly around 385 cents.

Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following cattle for their clients –

Locally for Randall & Kylie Carlow at Gilgandra, who sold prime Angus cows for 390 cents, they weighed 775kg and these top cows came back at $3020.

At Tooraweenah for The McWhirter Family of “Springfields”, who sold prime Santa cross cows that weighed 690kg, they made 395 cents and these top cows came back at $2730.

To the Marra for Richard & Dixie Stendell of “Ben Avon”, who sold very clean Santa cows for 375 cents, they weighed 600kg to come back at $2250.

To Nyngan for John & Mary Burley of “Woodlands Station”, who sold young Angus steer calves to restockers for 470 cents, they weighed 275kg and these top young calves came back at $1290.

Jim & Abigail McLaughlin of “Merryanbone North”, who sold Angus cross feeder steers that weighed 480kg for 460 cents and they came back at $2210.

At Tottenham for The Plummer Family of “Trigoona”, who sold forward Red Angus steers to feedlotters that weighed 545kg for 460 cents and they came back at $2510.

Lastly for a Western Vendor, Angus cross steers to feedlotters, framey and young they made 500 cents, they weighed 355kg to return $1780.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

To the lamb pens where there was a smaller number on offer, with all categories well represented, with most categories selling to cheaper trends of up to $10. 

Into the crossbreds firstly, with light weights up to 16kg dressed $138 to $155
Up to 18kg dressed $175 to  $191
Up to 20kg dressed $178 to $220 but mainly either side of $200
Medium weights $198 to $230
Heavy trade or light export $217 to $245
Light exports up to 26kg dressed $238 to $286
With drafts up to 30kg dressed $266 to $313 with most sales around the $280 mark
With super heavies this week seeing most sales between $228 and $350, with this week’s top price reaching $395 for a pen of super heavy weight 2nd cross lambs off the grain and a credit to the vendor.

To Merino’s, with light weights up to 18kg dressed in short supply and mainly to restockers $96 to $120
Up to 20kg dressed in short supply but seeing most sales around $160 to $180
Light trade $201 to $230
Heavy trade weights $235 to $250
With export weights $256 to $285

Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following lambs for their clients –

Firstly, locally for Craig & Kerry Walters of “Plain Creek” at Wongarbon, who sold 1st cross export weights lambs, with a ¼ inch skin, in a 3 score condition and these top lambs made $273.

For Chris & Bec O’Malley of “Carinya” at Narromine, who sold well rounded trade weight crossbred lambs, with an 8 week skin and these top lambs made $250.

At Coonamble for John & Georgie Burton of “Thara”, who sold export weight Aussie White lambs, in top condition and these long lambs made $263.

To Nyngan for The Cleaver Family of “Murrabee”, who sold light trade weight crossbred lambs – well rounded with a 6 week skin and these top lambs made $221.

Lastly for The Hoare Family of “Karabran”, who sold young Sheepmaster cross lambs to restockers in forward condition for $161.

To the mutton pens now, on what was a very strong market once again, with most categories fully firm on what is still a very good market.

Light weight boner ewes $70 to  $90
Boner ewes $118 to $136 with most sales either side of $120
Medium weights $140 to $213 with most sales around $160 for the Merino’s, with the crossbred portion $154 to $197
Export weights up to 30kg dressed $190 to  $245 for the Merino’s or $213 to $240 for the crossbreds
With super heavies this week over 30kg dressed $236 to $306 for crossbreds, with the majority around the $280 mark, with Merino’s $226 to $241

Wethers were in shorter supply this week, with the medium weights $181 to $186, with 1st cross export weights $240 to $246

Just a couple of quick quotes this week for Carter Lindsay & McHugh clients –

Locally for Greg & Vicki O’Connor, who sold large framed crossbred ewes to the exporters, with a 2 inch skin and these top ewes made $288.

Lastly for Richard & Linda Young of “Pinegrove” at Nyngan, who sold large framed crossbred ewes, with an inch skin, also to the exporters and these top ewes made $298.
