Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Campbell Rose taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of February 2026.
Tallied numbers this week included –
4400 fat cattle
19000 lambs and
13000 mutton
Cattle Report
Good rain in the far west reduced cattle numbers, with 4400 head yarded. The quality was good, with plenty of prime cattle in all categories. There were also good numbers for feedlots, restockers, and backgrounders. All regular buyers attended, and a southern processor returned to the market.
Young cattle sold 10c/kg higher. Prime yearlings made 412 to 478c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were up to 15c/kg dearer. Feeder steers sold for 432 to 513c/kg and feeder heifers made 400 to 470c/kg.
Restocker demand stayed very strong. Young steers sold up to 552c/kg and young heifers reached 452c/kg.
Grown steers and heifers were 15c/kg higher. Prime grown steers sold for 423 to 482c/kg and prime grown heifers made 410 to 484c/kg.
Cows were 10 to 15c/kg dearer. Medium cows (2 and 3 score) sold for 310 to 388c/kg. Heavy prime cows made 372 to 414c/kg, averaging 395c/kg. Restocker cows sold from 234 to 340c/kg.
Heavy bulls sold up to 410c/kg.
Carter Lindsay and McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Firstly, Greg & Vicki O’Connor of ‘Warren Downs’ at Wongarbon, sold heavy Angus cows for 413 cents, weighing 675kg, returning $2791.
The Atkinson Family of ‘Wonga’ at Yeoval, sold heavy Santa Bullocks for 440 cents, weighing 580kg, returning $2320.
Randall and Kylie Carlow of Kidman Angus at Dubbo, sold Vendor bred Angus heifers for 430 cents, weighing 192kg and returning $825.
The McWhirter Family of ‘Springfield’ at Tooraweenah, sold Angus bullocks for 482 cents, weighing 589kg, returning $2841.
And Lastly for The Weber Family of ‘Chelsea’ at Tottenham, who sold restocker Angus steers for 538 cents, weighing 222kg, returning $1198.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Lamb numbers dropped slightly and quality was more mixed, with more light and secondary lambs. Well-finished trade and heavy lambs increased, but there were only a few extra heavy lambs. Most light lambs were Dorper’s and Merino’s, with very few trade-weight Merino’s.
The market was stronger overall. Light restocking Dorper’s were $6 – $7 higher, selling for $114 – $156 per head. Very light Merino lambs sold for $51– $94. Trade lambs were $10 – $15 higher, selling for $220 – $281. Heavy lambs made $276 – $317 and extra heavy lambs reached $420 - up $8 – $10. Heavy hoggets were $14 higher, topping at $306.
Mutton numbers increased with mixed quality. Prices were stronger, especially for medium weights. Crossbred ewes sold up to $300, Merino ewes to $280, and Dorper’s to $269 per head.
Carter Lindsay and McHugh sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -
Firstly, Dave Campbell of Dubbo, sold heavy trade Australian White lambs for $285.
Jason Fulton of ‘Ashantee’ at Tottenham, sold heavy Australian White ewes for $269.
Richard & Linda Young of ‘Pinegrove’ at Nyngan, sold heavy crossbred hoggets for $310.
And lastly, for Richard & Cath Hoare of ‘Karabran’ at Nyngan, who sold restocker crossbred lambs for $216.
