Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the last week of July.
Tallied numbers this week included -
4400 fat cattle
22000 lambs
6000 mutton and
1000 store cattle
Into the cattle pens firstly, where a good quality yarding greeted all the usual buyers and some additional southern orders this week. Larger runs of yearling and feeder cattle were on offer as were good lines of cows. Heavy weight grown cattle were limited in what was a dearer market.
Young cattle to the trade were 9 cents dearer with prime vealers and yearlings selling 400 - 492c/kg. Feeder cattle lifted 15 cents, with the steer portion selling from 450 - 530c/kg, while feeder heifers sold from 388 - 467c/kg. Young cattle to the restockers continue to lift in price, with weaner steers selling to 580 cents and young heifers selling to 460 cents.
Grown steers and heifers were 20 cents better with grown steers selling from 410 - 484c/kg, while prime grown heifers sold from 408 - 473c/kg.
Cows were up to 20 cents stronger on last week’s rates with the better D3/4 cows making from 390 - 446c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 401c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Locally for Stan Noonan of ‘Retford Park’, who sold Santa heifers for 404 cents, weighing 348kg to return $1407.
The Skinner family of ‘Wembley Park’, sold Friesian cows for 375 cents, weighing 676kg to return $2536.
To Nyngan now for John & Mary Burley of ‘Woodlands Station’, who sold Angus steer vealers for 500 cents, weighing 374kg to return $1873.
The Young Family of ‘Pinegrove’, sold Angus steers for 490 cents, weighing 482kg to come back at $2362.
Lastly for Noel & Lynette Dunn of ‘Bundong Station’ at Coolabah, who sold Romagnola steers for 478 cents, weighing 564kg and they returned $2698.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where numbers were back due to some rain in the supply area. Quality was mixed with all grades represented and all the usual buyers were in attendance and operating.
Light lambs to the processors were dearer by $6 this week, selling from $168 - $206.
Trade weight new season lambs were $5 stronger to sell from $274 - $311.
Trade weight old lambs remained firm to range from $235 - $297.
Heavy weight and extra heavy lambs again attracted strong demand as the heavy weights sold from $303 - $360 and the extra heavy weights sold from $387 - $433.
Merino lambs were $10 better this week with the trade weights selling from $180 - $250 and the heavy weights reaching $357. The best heavy hoggets reached a top of $318.
Just a couple of quick quotes for Carter Lindsay & McHugh clients this week, Kelvin Baker of ‘Ercildoon’ at Narromine, sold Aussie White lambs in a 4 score condition, to the export orders for $300.
And for Brad & Sophie Cook of ‘Donola’ at Tottenham, who sold 1st cross wether lambs in a 3/4 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $325.
Into the mutton pens now where prices lifted $10 across all grades.
Light ewes sold from $99 - $138
Medium weight ewes sold from $160 - $210
Heavy weight ewes sold from $230 - $296
Light wethers sold from $126 - $160
Medium weight wethers sold from $173 - $202
Heavy wethers sold from $210 - $237
Just a quick quote for Noel & Lynette Dunn of ‘Bundong Station’ at Coolabah, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $260.
