Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this week’s livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 4th week of July 2025.
Tallied numbers this week included -
4300 fat cattle
35000 lambs
9400 sheep
Into the cattle pens firstly where it was a slightly smaller yarding with all categories represented. The market in general was 20 - 30 cents dearer for all categories, cows were definitely a highlight on what was a very strong sale.
Light vealer steers to restockers 400 - 530 cents with the heifer portion 350 - 420 cents. Yearling steers under 400kg to feed 450 - 530 cents, with drafts up to 500kg 430 - 515 cents.Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed 335 - 445 cents, with drafts over 400kg 400 - 438 cents but had to fresh to get over 420, with suitable kill drafts 410 - 469 cents.
Into export sales young bullocks 440 - 466 cents with mature age bullocks 420 - 458 cents. Heavy heifers to kill 370 - 428 cents in short supply and most yarded were 2 & 4 tooth. Cows as mentioned were a highlight with light boner cows 160 - 260 cents, medium weights 270 - 360 cents, with heavy high yielding cows 355 - 416 cents, with the majority around 390 cents.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh had the following cattle results for cattle clients this week -
Firstly locally for Kim Grattan who sold Angus weaner steers to backgrounders for 538 cents they weighed 280kg and these well bred calves came back at $1510.
To Yeoval for the Hughes Family of “Gullendah”, who sold prime Shorthorn cows for 404 cents they weighed 620kg and these top cows came back at $2500.
At Tomingley for the Lappa family, who sold well bred Angus weaner steers to feedlotters for 531 cents they weighed 340kg and these top calves came back at $1810.
To Tottenham for the Weber Family of “Chelsea”, who sold weaner steers to backgrounders for 515 cents, they weighed 345kg and they came back at $1780, while the heifer portion weighed 255kg they made 432 cents to restockers and they came back at $1100.
For Rob & Janet Machin who sold heavy Hereford cows for 395 cents, they weighed 600kg and these top cows returned $2375.
To Nyngan for the Young family of “Pinegrove”, who sold Angus feeder steers that weighed 480kg for 504 cents and they came back at $2430.
At Coolabah for the Dunn family of “Bundong Station”, who sold young prime Romagnola steers to the export kill for 455 cents, they weighed 620kg and these top steers came back at $2830.
For a north western vendor, proper bred fresh coated Santa heifers to feedlotters for 441 cents, they weighed 402kg and these top heifers came back at $1780.
While for a northern vendor, prime Angus cows that weighed 685kg for 410 cents and these top cows came back at $2800.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now were on the back of a very strong market there was a larger number on offer this week and did hold up very well. All categories were well represented with the market fully firm to $5 dearer, particularly for well finished trade and export crossbred lambs. If anything, Merino lambs could have been slightly cheaper - but not much.
Into crossbred sales firstly, with light kill drafts up to 16kg dressed $165 - $170
Up to 18kg dressed $159 - $200 but mainly around $180
Light trade $188 - $235
Medium trade $224 - $268
Heavy trade / light export $$250 - $300
Export weights up to 26kg dressed $240 - $380 and mainly around the $300 mark
Up to 30kg dressed $300 - $380 and mainly around the $340 mark
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $320 - $394 with this week’s top price reaching $434.
To Merino’s light weights up to 16kg dressed $146 - $160
Up to 18kg dressed $148 - $175
Light trade $175 - $200
Medium trade $215 - $250
Heavy trade / light export $242 - $270
Up to 26kg dressed $252 - $295
Carter Lindsay & McHugh had the following lamb results for clients this week -
Locally for the Kelly family at Wongarbon, who sold prime 2nd cross suckers to the heavy trade butchers, in a 3 score condition and these top young lambs made $330.
Greg & Vicki O’Connor sold export weight 2nd cross lambs in a 4 score condition with a beautiful 8 week skin and these top lambs made $360.
For Adam & Billie-Jean Altus, who sold export weight Aussie White lambs in a 4 score condition and they made $320.
For the Holland family of “Avondale” at Goolma, who sold large framed Merino lambs in a trim 3 score condition, with an inch skin to the exporters and these top long lambs made $295.
At Tottenham for Brad & Sophie Cook of “Donola”, who sold export weight 1st cross lambs with a 8 week skin, in a 3 score condition and they made $315.
To Nyngan for the Hoare family of “Bel-Air”, who sold very trim heavy trade weight SAMM lambs with a fresh 8 week skin and these top lambs made $273.
For Anthony & Kate Gibson of “Wilgadale” at Girilambone, who sold trim trade weight Merino lambs, properly presented with a 6 week skin and they made $164.
While at Bourke for Ben and Liarne Mannix of “Gumbooka”, who sold light export weight Dorper lambs in a rock hard 3 score condition and they made $254.
To the mutton pens now where there was again a good size number yarded. The market in general was up $10 cheaper on the medium weight sheep with heavy sheep up to $10 dearer on what is still a very strong market.
Light boner ewes $66 - $76
Boner ewes $68 - $100
Medium weights $105 - $183 with most results around the $150 mark for the Merino’s or $170 - $237 but mainly around the $200 mark for the crossbreds.
Drafts up to 30kg dressed $178 - $248 for Merino’s, with most results around $212
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $213 - $270 for the Merino’s but mainly around $255.
Medium weight wethers in shorter supply $132 - $190
With export weights $190 - $246 but mainly Merinos and most sales around $215
With the super heavies mainly all crossbreds, this week seeing sales up to $245.
