Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of July, 2025. Tallied numbers this week included –
4800 cattle
32000 lambs and
13000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where numbers were back with all grades represented in a firm to dearer market. It was a heavier yarding than we have seen for a while with all usual buyers competing strongly at the rail.
Young cattle to the trade were firm with prime vealers and yearlings selling from 360 - 435c/kg. Feeder cattle remained firm for the lightweights yet lifted 10 cents for the heavy lines. Feeder steers ranged from 390 - 495c/kg, while the heifer portion sold from 360 - 460c/kg.
Young cattle to the restockers sold to continued strong demand with light steers selling to 501 cents and young heifers reaching 400 cents.
Grown steers were 20 cents better on quality while grown heifers were 15 cents stronger. Grown steers sold from 390 - 449c/kg and grown heifers sold from 360 - 435c/kg.
Cows remained firm with the D3/4 cows selling from 350 - 376c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 346 cents.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
The Altus Family at Wongarbon, sold Angus steers for 440 cents, weighing 637kg to return $2804.
The Bruce Family of ‘Kentore’ at Cumnock, sold Shorthorn steers to the feeder orders for 400 cents, weighing 490kg to return $1960.
Judy Donnelly of ‘Kurrajong Park’ at Narromine, sold Angus steers for 475 cents, they weighed 549kg and came back at $2610.
The McKay Family of ‘Winnabri’ at Trangie, sold Shorthorn heifers for 350 cents, weighing 440kg to return $1540.
To Coonamble now for the Colwell Family of ‘Lexington’, who sold Charolais cross cows for 369 cents, that weighed 767kg to return $2833.
The Hanigan Family of ‘Hollywood”, sold 2 tooth Angus bullocks for 444 cents, weighing an impressive 802kg to return $3562.
To Nyngan now for The Young Family of ‘Pinegrove’, who sold Angus cows for 362 cents, weighing 653kg to return $2366.
Bryan & Jess Perry of ‘Killarney Vale’, sold Angus vealers for 500 cents, weighing 221kg to return $1108.
Lastly for Clare Kesby of ‘The Rocks’ at Brewarrina, who sold Charolais cross cows for 355 cents, weighing 621kg to come back at $2205.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where competition remained strong. It was a very good quality yarding with a nice selection of both trade and heavy weights on offer. Well finished Merino lambs also filled the pens with all the usual buyers competing at the rail in a dearer market.
Lightweight lambs to the processors were $7 stronger selling from $140 - $190. Trade lambs to the processors were $13 dearer, selling between $240 - $300 or up to $12 per kg carcase weight. Heavy lambs gained $15 selling from $296 - $370 or up to $11.50 per kg and extra heavy lambs sold from $338 - $432 which is a selling centre record!!
Merino trade weights were $11 dearer, selling from $175 - $250 while the heavy weight Merino lambs sold from $298 - $341. The best heavy hoggets reached a top of $272.

Marnie Millner of ‘Geurie Homestead’ at Geurie, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 4 score condition, with an inch skin for $372.
The Smart Family of ‘Tullarook’ at Trangie, sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition to the trade orders for $211.
Scott Howe of ‘Newark’ at Baradine, sold crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $344.
The Robinson Family of ‘Wonga’ at Carinda, sold 1st cross lambs in a 4 score condition, with an inch skin to the exporters for $320.
Lastly for The Green Family of ‘Kookaburra’ at Goodooga, who sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch and a half skin to the domestic orders for $257.
Into the mutton pens now where all grades were represented in a dearer market.
Light ewes sold from $45 - $125
Medium weight ewes sold from $144 - $220
Heavy weight ewes sold from $203 - $272
Light wethers sold from $98 - $129
Medium weight wethers sold from $145 - $200
Heavy weight wethers sold from $223 - $282

The Bell Family of ‘Barney’s’ at Mendooran, sold Aussie White ewes in a 3 score condition to the exporters for $189.
Jim Hegarty of ‘Belvedere’ at Cassilis, sold crossbred ewes in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $158.
The Mills Family of ‘Warrah’ at Tottenham, sold Dohne ewes in a 4 score condition, with an inch skin for $236.
And lastly for The McKay Family of ‘Winnabri’ at Trangie, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $209.
