Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this week's livestock markets out of Dubbo for the second week of July.
Tallied numbers this week included
2900 fat cattle
8000 lambs and
2000 sheep
Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a smaller yarding on offer with most categories represented. The market in general was fully firm for most categories with feeder heifers once again a highlight, but mainly being because there were some good lines on offer due to the smaller yarding. Export cattle were slightly cheaper but only because of the smaller yarding.
Light vealer steers to restockers 500 – 675 cents.
Light vealer heifers to restockers 510 – 571 cents, but there were some quality larger lines of Angus drafts on offer.
Yearling steers under 400kg live to feedlotters 535 – 580 cents, with a big portion of crossbreds, with heavier drafts over 400kg live to feed 500 – 614 cents, with most sales being around 565 cents, with a large portion of this category being crossbreds.
Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed 470 – 566 cents with a big majority either side of 560 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg to feed 520 – 555 cents.
To export sales which as mentioned were in much shorter supply with the best bullocks 450 – 460 cents and being 4 tooths with heavy kill heifers 460 – 484 cents.
Light boner cows to restockers 360 – 388 cents, medium weights to restockers 200 - 405 cents generally, with the best drafts being PTIC and in good size runs made up to 448 cents. Kill types 372 – 396 cents, with heavy high yielding cows 396 – 412 cents generally with the best cows making up to 428 cents.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
For a local client, Angus feeder steers that weighed 524kg for 560 cents and these top steers returned $2935.
Locally for the Skinner family, who sold prime Friesian cows for 396 cents, they weighed 630kg and these top cows came back at $2480.
While for Daren Beverage at Baradine, who sold Angus steers that weighed 275kg for 626 cents and these useful steers came back at $1660, while the lead of the heifers weighed 332kg for 558 cents and they came back at $1855.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now where due to local rainfall it was a much smaller yarding than what we have seen for quite a while, however the market was still very strong for all categories. If any were softer it was due to smaller supply.
Into crossbred lambs firstly, with light weights around 16kg dressed to restockers $188 - $234.
Light weights to kill up to 18kg dressed $180 - $240.
Light trade $190 - $240.
Medium trade in short supply $230 - $280 with most sales around $240.
Heavy trade $270 - $320 with most sales either side of $300.
With export weights up to 26kg dressed $310 - $345, with super heavies over 30kg dressed $350 - $380.
To the Merino’s, with the light weights up to 12kg dressed to restockers $158 - $184.
Up to 16kg dressed $180 - $195.
Up to 18kg dressed seeing sales up to $192.
Medium trade seeing sales up to $312 but were very good and grain assisted.
Heavy trade $262 - $292 with most sales around the $280 mark.
With export weight Merino’s up to 30kg dressed and bearing in mind they were very good and in prime condition for the grain and they made $356.
Just a quick quote this week for Greg & Vicki O’Connor at Wongarbon, who sold export weight 2nd cross lambs in a 4 score condition, with a ½ inch skin and these top lambs made $340.
To the mutton pens now, where like the lambs there as a smaller yarding than normal on what is still a very strong market.
Light boner ewes $90 - $139.
Boner ewes $138 - $150.
Medium weights $180 - $208 for Merino’s with most sales around that $190 mark, with crossbreds $200 - $231.
Export weights up to 30kg dressed $230 - $280 generally, with the top price being $302 with the Merino’s $228 - $308 however most sales were around the $260 mark.
With super heavy weights over 30kg dressed $280 - $330 with most sales either side of $300.
Wethers were in short supply with most of them being in the mid-range up to 24kg dressed and seeing sales between $225 and $235 with a run of export weight wethers making up to $250.
