Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Campbell Rose from Carter Lindsay & McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of July 2026.
Tallied numbers this week included –
2,300 fat cattle
12,500 lambs &
5,000 mutton
Cattle Report
Numbers increased by 670, with a total yarding of 2,310 head.
There was a good supply of weaners for restockers, but only a small number of young steers suitable for feeders. There were plenty of prime grown steers and heifers, along with a fair number of cows.
Young cattle sold to processors were around 15c/kg cheaper. Prime vealers and yearlings made 482c to 544c/kg.
Feeder steers held mostly firm, selling from 522c to 618c/kg, while feeder heifers were 10c to 20c/kg cheaper, selling from 486c to 558c/kg.
The best-quality young cattle for restockers sold for higher prices, but overall restocker cattle were 30c/kg cheaper. Young steers sold to 695c/kg, averaging 600c/kg, while young heifers reached 705c/kg.
Grown steers and heifers were up to 12c/kg dearer. Prime grown steers sold from 428c to 492c/kg, and prime grown heifers made 450c to 484c/kg.
Cows improved by 4c to 9c/kg. Medium cows sold from 355c to 408c/kg, while prime heavy cows made 395c to 435c/kg, averaging 421c/kg. Restocker cows sold from 344c to 410c/kg.
Heavy bulls topped at 438c/kg.
Carter Lindsay and McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients.
Firstly, Anthony Cook of Geurie. Sold vendor bred Angus weaner steers for 628c, weighing 187kg, returning $1,177.
Viv White of ‘Western Stock’ Molong. Sold Fresh Angus vealer males for 538c, weighing 287kg, returning $1,547.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now where lamb numbers increased by 5,000, with a total yarding of 12,700 head.
It was a good-quality yarding, with plenty of heavy lambs on offer, while trade-weight lambs were in shorter supply. There were good numbers of crossbred and exotic lambs, along with a fair run of well-finished Merino lambs.
Lightweight processor lambs were firm, with 12kg to 18kg lambs selling from $207 to $232/head.
Trade lambs were $6 to $8 dearer, with 20kg to 24kg lambs selling from $221 to $318/head.
Heavy lambs held firm. Lambs weighing 24kg to 30kg sold from $300 to $350/head. Lambs over 30kg sold from $333 to $376/head.
Merino lambs were $6 dearer, with trade weights selling from $230 to $300/head.
There were only limited numbers of restocker lambs, and prices were cheaper. Crossbred and exotic lambs sold from $139 to $232/head. Feeder demand was stronger, with feeder lambs selling from $274 to $288/head.
Merino hoggets sold to a top of $296/head.
There were 5,110 sheep yarded. Most mutton prices were firm to $8/head cheaper. Merino ewes sold from $142 to $309/head, while crossbred ewes made $188 to $334/head. Heavy Dorper wethers sold to $336/head,
Carter Lindsay and McHugh sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients.
Firstly, Matt and Kylie Whale of ‘Glenroy’ Wellington. Sold CFA xb ewes bare shorn, in prime condition for $250
Shaun & Phillipa O’Brien of ‘Nebindulla’ Bollon QLD sold light restocker dorper lambs back to the paddock for $197.
Michael, Jocelyn & Declan Hoare of ‘Bel-Air’ Nyngan. Sold beautifully presented bare shorn merino wether lambs for $337.
And Lastly, John Pocknell of ‘Springvale Station’ Walgett. Sold trade weight dorper lambs for $248.
