Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Sam Knaggs taking a look at this week’s livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 4th week of July, 2026.
Tallied numbers this week included-
3200 Fat Cattle
14200 Lambs and
4400 Sheep
Into the cattle pens firstly, where numbers increased this week by roughly 900. The quality of the yarding this week saw large numbers of weaners along with good runs of yearlings to suit the feeder market. There was a limited supply of grown steers and heifers while the cows yarded were very mixed with odd pens of heavy cows on offer.
Young Cattle
Young cattle to the trade were mostly 5 cents dearer, with prime vealers and yearlings selling from 510 to 554c/kg.
Lightweight feeders this week saw a stronger demand being up to 10 cents dearer in places, while the heavier feeders fell 5 to 10c/kg, with the overall feeder steers selling from 470 to 618c/kg and the feeder heifers sold from 430 to 558c/kg.
Young cattle to the restocker finished fully firm, with steers going back to the paddock for 638c/kg and heifers 590c/kg. With the heifers having 2 isolated sales of some quality Braford heifers reaching $8 and $8.15.
Grown Cattle
Grown steers and heifers were 6 cents cheaper, with prime grown steers selling from 412 to 468 cents, while prime heavy heifers sold from 454 - 487c/kg.
Cows
Plain 2 and 3 score cows finished 5 cents cheaper selling from 315 to 400c/kg and prime high yielding cows were 10 to 15 cents cheaper, selling between 395 and 425c/kg, to average 404c/kg.
Bulls
The best heavy bull reached a top of 450c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Stan Noonan of ‘Retford Park’ at Dubbo, sold 4 and 6 tooth Angus cross heifers for 437 cents, weighing 553kg to return $2420.
The Gibson family of ‘Wilgadale’ at Nyngan, sold Hereford steers for 520 cents, weighing 286kg to return $1500.
While for The Weber Family at Tottenham, who sold Angus steers for 570 cents, weighing 280kg to return $1600.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where the quality this week saw a lot of good runs of well finished heavy weights along with trade weights also. Merino lambs were well supplied as were the exotics.
Lightweight lambs up to 18kg sold to the restocker from $130 to $233.
Trade weight lambs 18kg to 24kg finished $10 cheaper to sell from $220 to $296 to average 1175c. A single pen of new season lambs sold for $313 to be 1250c/kg.
Heavy weight lambs finished the day $15 to $20 cheaper selling from $290 to $330 averaging 1090c/kg.
While lambs over 30kg reached a top of $365.
Trade weight Merino lambs this week sold from $210 to $285 and the heavy weight Merino lambs sold out to a top of $316.
The best heavy hoggets reached $296.
In the sheep pens the mutton yarded covered most categories with sheep selling to a dearer trend.
Light weight ewes sold from $160 - $200
Medium weight ewes sold from $190 - $250
Heavy weight ewes sold from $240- $338
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -
Dave and Tracey Whillock of ‘Murga’ at Geurie, sold trade weight 2nd cross suckers for $313.
Greg and Sally Whillock of ‘Maxland’ at Geurie, sold heavy weight crossbred lambs for $343.
The Whiteman and Davis family of Dubbo, sold heavy Aussie White lambs for $290.
Lastly for Mitch Butler of ‘Jambaroo’ at Girilambone, who sold heavy Merino ewes for $295.
