Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the last week of July.
Tallied numbers this week included –
3000 fat cattle
17000 lambs and
5000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where again this week there were good numbers of young cattle to suit the restockers and feeders. Some nice lines of cows were on offer with an odd pen of well finished grown steers and heifers in a mostly cheaper market.
Prime vealers and yearlings sold from 435 - 530c/kg. Feeder steers lost 10 cents to sell from 494 - 590c/kg, while the heifer portion remained firm to sell from 440 - 550c/kg.
Young cattle to the restockers were 20 cents softer in places with young steers selling to 690 cents and the heifers selling to 530 cents.
Grown steers and heifers were firm on last week’s rates. Grown steers sold from 430 - 488c/kg and the grown heifers sold from 420 - 470c/kg.
Prime heavy cows were 8 cents dearer, selling from 393 - 429c/kg. Light cows back to the paddock reached a top of 408 cents and the best heavy bull sold to a top of 440 cents.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Locally for the Bartimote family of ‘Gilway‘, who sold Angus steers for 500 cents, weighing 350kg to return $1750.
The Walters Family of ‘Plain Creek’ at Wongarbon, sold Angus heifers for 400 cents, weighing 510kg to return $2040.
The Weber Family of ‘Chelsea’ at Tottenham, sold Angus steers for 540 cents, weighing 229kg to return $1237.
The Young Family of ‘Pinegrove’ at Nyngan, sold Angus cows for 410 cents, weighing 582kg to return $2389.
Lastly for The Altus family of ‘Fermoy’ at Coonamble, who sold Angus cross 2 tooth steers for 528 cents, weighing 472kg to return $2493.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now where numbers were up on last week, with quality of lambs on offer lifted, as did the prices.
Trade weight lambs 20kg - 24kg gained $5 to sell from $250 - $300.
Heavy lambs remained firm while the extra heavies were $10 stronger.
Heavy lambs sold from $290 - $340, and the extra heavy lambs sold from $345 - $380 with an isolated sale reaching $399.
Merino lambs finished $10 - $15 dearer across the board.
Trade weight Merino lambs sold from $230 - $290
With heavy Merino lambs topping at $350.
Restocker and feeder buyers were active with lambs going back to the paddock for $288.
The best heavy hoggets reached a top of $295.

Locally for The Colbran family at Dubbo, who sold crossbred suckers in a 3/4 score condition, with an inch skin for $297.
The Schiffmann Family of ‘Tarthra’ at Burroway, sold 2nd cross suckers in a fresh 3 score condition for $292.
The Altus family of ‘Emogardry’ at Eumungerie, sold fresh Dorper cross lambs in a 4 score condition to the exporters for $298.
The Baker family of ‘Ercildoon’ at Narromine, sold Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition to domestic kill for $276.
The Hoare Family of ‘Bel-Air’ at Nyngan, sold SAMM lambs in a 3 score condition with a neat 6 week skin for $298.
Lastly for The Green Family of ‘Kookaburra’ at Goodooga, who sold heavy crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition, with a 2 inch skin for $310.
Into the mutton pens now where the market across all grades was firm to slightly cheaper.
Light ewes sold from $115 - $170
Medium weight ewes sold from $190 - $260
Heavy ewes sold from $280 - $323.
Light wethers sold from $110 - $165
Medium weight wethers sold from $180 - $240
Heavy wethers sold from $270 - $290
