Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Campbell Rose taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week of August 2026.
Tallied numbers this week included –
3500 fat cattle
17000 lambs &
6600 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where overall the quality of the cattle was lacking condition, with many secondary cattle in light condition. There were also a lot of weaners, which sold into a much weaker market. Only a small number of well-finished yearlings, cows, grown steers and heifers were available.
Trade buyers paid similar prices for quality young cattle. Prime vealers and yearlings sold for 450–550c/kg.
Feeder steers were around 40c/kg cheaper, while better quality feeder heifers were 10c/kg cheaper and plainer feeder heifers were 40c/kg cheaper. Feeder steers sold for 400–566c/kg and feeder heifers for 400–526c/kg.
Restocker demand was much weaker, with young cattle selling 40–70c/kg cheaper. Young steers made 276–546c/kg and young heifers 270–525c/kg.
Grown steers and heifers eased by 10–20c/kg. Prime grown steers sold for 425–460c/kg and prime grown heifers for 412–470c/kg.
Cow prices were 8–15c/kg lower. Medium cows sold for 220–385c/kg, while heavy prime cows made 370–412c/kg, averaging 396c/kg. Restocker cows sold for 125–382c/kg. Heavy bulls reached 429c/kg.
Carter Lindsay and McHugh sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Firstly, Sam and Penny Deshon of ‘Rocklee’ at Wellington, who sold heavy PTE Angus cows for 411 cents, weighing 781kg, returning $3215.
To Nyngan for Richard & Linda Young of ‘Pinegrove’, who sold vendor bred Angus feeder heifers for 517 cents, weighing 419kg, returning $2170.
John & Mary Burley of ‘Woodlands Station’, sold prime Angus cross cows for 395 cents, weighing 509kg, returning $2010.
And lastly for Trevor & Steph Waterhouse of ‘Red Briar’, who sold fresh Santa cross weaners for 490 cents, weighing 345kg, returning $1691.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Lamb numbers were similar to last sale, with 17,070 yarded. The quality was mixed, with a fair number of well-finished heavy and trade lambs, along with plenty of plainer secondary lambs. Not all regular buyers were operating, making prices fluctuate throughout the sale.
Trade lambs were around $12 cheaper. Lambs weighing 20–24kg sold from $228 to $295. New season trade lambs sold from $250 to $283/head.
Heavy lambs remained firm. Lambs weighing 24–30kg sold from $274 to $343, while lambs over 30kg sold from $336 to $359/head.
Trade weight Merino lambs were firm to $6 cheaper, while heavy Merino lambs were around $11 cheaper. Trade weight Merinos sold from $180 to $292, with heavy Merinos making $280 to $320/head.
Restocker demand was weaker. Crossbred and exotic lambs sold for up to $20 less, making $130 to $278/head. Restocker Merino lambs sold from $77 to $170/head.
Hoggets sold to a top of $298/head.
There were 6680 sheep yarded. Most mutton prices were up to $25/head cheaper. Merino ewes sold from $93 to $278, while crossbred ewes made $140 to $283/head. Merino wethers sold from $107 to $250, and crossbred wethers sold to $298/head.
Carter Lindsay and McHugh sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -
Firstly, Dave & Tracey Whillock of ‘Murga’ at Geurie, sold fresh 2nd cross suckers for $278.
Dallas & Marilyn Bryan of ‘Newe Park’ at Warren, sold trade weight 1st cross lambs for $256.
And Lastly for Brian & Maree Plummer of ‘Trigoona’ at Tottenham, who sold trade weight Merino wether lambs, with an inch skin for $263.
