Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this week’s livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of August, 2026.
Tallied numbers this week included -
3300 fat cattle
17000 lambs &
4000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly where there was a similar yarding on offer this week with most categories represented.
The market in general was only just firm for good quality forward Angus feeder steers with the crossbreds up to 20 cents softer. Good quality feeder heifers also 20 softer with any plainer types hit hard and up to 30 cents softer and could have been more in places. Cows were slightly dearer with limited kill cattle in high demand.
Light vealer steers to restockers 425 - 576 cents, with the heifer portion 355 – 490 cents
Yearling steers under 400kg to feed 450 - 568 cents
With restocker drafts 425 - 478 cents and a lot of crossbreds
Heavier Angus drafts over 400kg to feed 520 - 548 cents, with the crossbred portion 502 -530 cents.
Plainer yearling heifers under 400kg definitely softer, 450 - 480 cents, with the fresher drafts 450 - 520 cents. Heavier drafts over 400kg to feed 470 - 490 cents for the fresher crossbreds, with the Angus drafts 500 - 528 cents. Limited kill drafts but what was there was very good 468 - 530 cents.
To export sales, heavy heifers to kill 426 - 484 cents, but what was yarded was very good.
Medium weight cows to restockers 357 - 391 cents, with kill drafts 360 – 389 cents, but mainly either side of 380 cents. With heavy high yielding cows 372 - 400 cents generally, with the pick seeing sales between 400 and 415 cents.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh had the following cattle results for clients this week –
Locally for the Vaughan family of “Iona” at Yeoval, who sold prime Angus cows that weighed 695kg for 410 cents and these top cows returned $2855.
The Skinner family of “Wembley Park” at Dubbo, sold large framed Friesian cows for 370 cents, they weighed 645kg and these top cows came back at $2390.
The Whale family of “Glenroy” at Wellington, sold fresh, forward Angus steers to the feedlots for 567 cents, they weighed 420kg and they came back at $2380.
To Nyngan for the Young family of “Pinegrove”, who sold Angus steers to the feeders for 567 cents, they weighed 520kg and they came back at $2400.
While at Girilambone for the Dunn family of “Bundong Station”, who sold prime Romagnola heifers to the heavy trade butchers for 470 cents they weighed 560kg and these top heifers came back at $2645.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
To the lambs pens now where it was a slightly reduced yarding with some much welcome rain in the drawing area. All categories were represented on what was a slightly dearer market particularly on the trade and export weights.
To crossbreds firstly, where lightweights up to 16kg dressed $ 150 - $190 mainly to restockers
Up to 18 kg dressed $170 - $220
Light trade $200 - $255
Medium trade $230 - $260
Heavy trade / light export $258 - $307 but mainly around $280 mark
Drafts up to 30kg dressed $291 - $350
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $336 - $370.
To the Merino’s, lightweights up to 16kg dressed $120 - $165
Light trade $188 - $210
Medium trade $200 - $268 bearing in mind a lot of these were grain assisted.
Carter Lindsay & McHugh had the following lamb results for clients this week -
To Baradine for Scott Howe, who sold tidy Dorper cross lambs in a 3 score condition, with an 8 week skin and these top lambs made $305.
The Bryan family of “Newe Park” at Warren, sold trade weight Dohne lambs in with a 1/4 inch skin and they made $188.
To Nyngan for the Young family of “Pinegrove”, who sold heavyweight crossbred lambs with an inch skin, in a 3 score condition and these top lambs made $370.
At Bourke for the Mannix family of “Gumbooka”, who sold export weight Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition and these top lambs made $294.
To the mutton pens where the market was slightly dearer than last week particularly on the medium and heavyweights.
Boner ewes $115 - $150 but mainly around $130
Medium weights $159 - $210 for Merino’s or $ 182 - $202 but mainly around the $180 mark for the crossbreds.
With the export weight ewes for the crossbreds $250 - $280 and topping at $324 for some monsters or $203 - $273 for the Merino’s.
Medium weight wethers $150 - $170
With export weights $210 - $268.
Just some quick quotes for Carter Lindsay & McHugh clients this week -
At Baradine for the Murray family, who sold large frame export weight ewes to the exporters, in a 3 score condition and they made $225.
While for Martin & Rose Myors down from Wanaaring, a top run of large framed Merino wethers with an 8 week skin, in a 3 score condition, with the tops making $255.
