Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Sam Knaggs taking a look at this week’s livestock markets out of Dubbo for the first week of April, 2026.  Tallied numbers this week included -

27100 lambs and
10050 mutton

With no cattle sale this week due to the Easter long weekend

 Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens where the quality this week had a consistent supply of light weight Dorper lambs and secondary trade weights, which were in strong demand from the restockers and feedlots.  There were good runs of prime trade and heavy lambs while extra heavy lambs were short in supply. 

Lightweight lambs sold to the restocker lifted $20 to sell from $130 to $232. Trade weight lambs 18kg to 24kg finished firm to $10 dearer to sell from $215 to $277 to average 1150 cents.   Heavier weight lambs over 24kg finished the day $5 dearer selling from $260 to $338 averaging 1120 cents.  While extra heavy lambs reached a top of $350 but were limited in supply.

The best heavy hoggets reached $320.

In the sheep pens the mutton yarded covered most categories with sheep selling to a fully firm trend, with most ewes ranging from 770 to 835 cents.

Light weight ewes sold from $100 - $140
Medium weight ewes sold from $144 - $195
Heavy weight ewes sold from $200 - $284
With heavy Aussie White wethers reaching $324

Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following lambs and sheep for some of their clients -

Ben Doherty of ‘Bundarra’ at Tullamore, sold trade weight Merino lambs for $266. 

Mick & Anna Altus of ‘Fermoy’ at Coonamble, sold heavy Aussie White wethers for $324, they also sold trade weight Aussie White lambs for $274.

Lastly for Lachie Sheahan of ‘Shannendoah’ at Bollon, who sold light trade weight Dorper lambs for $242.

This funding is specific to producers and livestock agents.

Please note the applications open on 2 March 2026, and you must have already purchased the equipment before you can apply (this program does not quarantine funds for future purchases). 

Equipment can have a purchase date from 3 October 2023.
