Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of April, 2026.
Tallied numbers this week included -
11300 fat cattle,
29000 lambs,
12000 mutton and
1300 store cattle
Into the cattle pens firstly, where the large sell off continues again with a record yarding for the Dubbo selling centre. Cows and young cattle suitable for restockers making up a large percentage of the yarding, which was well supported from southern orders, with better numbers of steers and heifers to suit the feeders and there was limited pens of prime cattle mixed throughout.
Young cattle to the trade were 5 cents cheaper, with prime vealers and yearlings selling from 410 – 490 cents. The better end of the feeders remained firm, yet most of them eased 10 cents. Feeder steers sold from 420 – 530 cents, while feeder heifers sold from 360 – 460 cents. The better quality young cattle to the restockers were 10 cents better, however the plainer types were cheaper as the steers sold from 355 – 520 cents and the heifers sold from 313 – 410 cents.
Grown steers and heifers remained firm with the steer portion selling from 424 – 470 cents and the heifers ranging from 420 – 465 cents.
Cows eased this week on the sheer weight of numbers, with the better D3/4 cows selling to 358 cents, while the plainer lighter cows sold from 150 – 260 cents.
The best heavy bull reached a top of 418 cents.

The Keorstz family of ‘Warrie’ at Dubbo, sold Santa cows for 346 cents, weighing 756kg and they returned $2616.
Florence Millner of ‘Geurie Homestead’ at Geurie, sold Charolais cross heifers for 462 cents, weighing 478kg and they returned $2212.
To Wongarbon for the Altus Family of ‘Albion Hills’, who sold Charolais cross steers for 450 cents, weighing 440kg to return $1980.
The Kelly Family of ‘Blackdowns’, sold Angus steers for 519 cents, weighing 354kg to return $1838.
Sam & Penny Deshon of ‘Rocklee’ at Wellington, sold Angus heifers for 460 cents, they weighed 498kg and returned $2294.
The Lawson & Quirk Families of ‘Monte Carlo’ at Stuart Town, sold Santa heifers for 465 cents, weighing 697kg and they returned $3244.
Mark Young of ‘Narranvale’ at Coolah, sold 6 tooth Angus cross heifers for 420 cents, weighing 572kg to come back at $2404.
The Earl Family of ‘Longstowe’ at Warren, sold Angus heifers for 475 cents, weighing 402kg and they returned $1912.
To Nyngan now for David & Terese Carter of ‘Wilgaree’, who sold Angus cows 330 cents, weighing 608kg to return $2007.
The Hoare family of ‘Bel-Air’, sold Angus bullocks for 470 cents , weighing 667kg to come back at $3137.
To Tottenham now for the McFadyen Family of ‘Killarney’, who sold Angus cross bullocks for 370 cents, weighing 703kg to return $2603.
And lastly The Weber family of ‘Chelsea’, sold Angus cows for 332 cents, they weighed 582kg and returned $1933.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where the first sale for a couple of weeks had a good quality yarding with plenty of numbers of trade and heavy weights lambs mixed throughout. There were also good numbers of lighter lambs to suit the restockers and feeders. All the usual buyers were in attendance with additional support from southern orders.
Lightweight lambs to the restockers sold to very strong competition with crossbred and Dorper lambs making $160 - $280, while the Merino portion sold from $130 - $215.
Trade lambs lifted in value by $15 to sell from $250 - $315 or around the $12 per kg, dress weight.
Heavy lambs were $20 better, selling from $293 - $369.
Extra heavy lambs sold to a top of $412.
Merino trade weight, up by $15 sold from $230 - $290 and heavy Merino’s sold to a top of $326.
The best heavy hoggets sold to $300.

Locally in Dubbo for the Keorstz Family of ‘Warrie’, who sold Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition, to the domestic kill for $260.
Paul & Carmel Quinn of ‘Caroo’, sold Dorper lambs in a 2 score condition for $199.
The Whillock Family of “Maxland” at Geurie, sold 2nd cross lambs, in a 4 score condition with a 1 inch skin for $350.
The Deshon Family of ‘Rocklee’ at Wellington, sold Aussie White lambs in a 4 score condition, to the export orders for $333.
Matthew Scott of ‘Gum Valley’ at Warren, sold Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $244.
The Fragar Family of ‘Talgong’ at Tottenham, sold Dohne lambs in a 2/3 score condition, with an inch skin for $256.
To Nyngan now for Heath & Laura Boland of ‘Pepper Farm’, who sold young Dorper lambs to the restockers for $225.
The Gibson Family of ‘Wilgadale’, sold young Merino wether lambs in a 2 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $134.
And lastly for The Hoare Family of ‘Karabran’, who sold Sheepmaster cross lambs in a 2/3 score condition, back to the paddock for $245.
Into the mutton pens now where all grades were firm to dearer.
Lightweight ewes sold from $80 - $150
Medium weight ewes sold from $175 - $230
Heavy ewes sold from $250 - $326.
Light weight wethers sold from $100 - $160
Medium weight wethers sold from $190 - $240
Heavy wethers sold from $270 - $330
Well just a quick quote for The Stendell family of ‘Ben Avon’ at Brewarrina, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $203.
