Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with only the cattle to report on this week due to the Kings Birthday long weekend.

This week there was 2500 cattle in Dubbo on what was a mixed yarding of cattle.  With most categories represented on what was a fully firm to dearer market.

Weaner steers were strong seeing rises of up to 20 cents, with feeder steers also enjoying the same trends, with feeder heifers once again in high demand, with some very nice grain assisted bullocks on offer which also sold to very strong competition, but I must say there was a lot fewer numbers of cows this week.

Light vealer steers and I’m talking under 200kg – all to restockers 575 to 675 cents, with most sales around the 620 cent mark.  With slightly heavier drafts over 200kg live 470 to 676 cents and again most sales around the 620 cent mark.

Light vealer heifers and again under 200kg live – all to restockers 455 to 680 cents, but saw most sales around the 530 cent mark.

Yearling steers over 300kg to feeders 500 to 580 cents, with the majority around 545 cents.  With heavier drafts over 400kg to feeders 534 to 584 cents, with most sales around the 540 cent mark.

Yearling heifers up to 400kg live in high demand seeing sales between 480 and 500 cents, with the pick and mainly being your Angus drafts making up to 520 cents.  With heavier drafts over 400kg to feed 500 to 548 cents, with most in this category being Angus drafts this week.

Into export sales, as mentioned there was a great draft of grain fed bullocks with their 2 and 4 teeth, seeing sales between 490 and 520 cents, but mainly around the 510 cent mark.

Export heifers to kill 420 to 465 cents generally, with cows as mentioned in much shorter supply with boner cows to restockers 380 to 400 cents, medium weight cows 394 to 404 cents with most sales either side of 400 cents, with heavy high yielding cows 395 to 420 cents with this week’s top price reaching 430 cents.

Carter Lindsay & McHugh sold the following cattle for their clients –

Locally for The Lawson & Quirk Families of “Monte Carlo”, who sold young Charolais cross vealer heifers for 482 cents, they weighed 185kg and these top little heifers came back at $885.

Dave & Terese Carter at Nyngan, sold forward Angus steers – started on the grain to feedlotters that weighed 420kg for 540 cents and these top steers came back at $2280.

For The Dunn Family of “Bundong Station” at Coolabah, who sold prime Romagnola steers to the trade butchers that weighed 550kg for 520 cents and these top steers came back at $2860.

While for an Eastern vendor – young Angus steers to backgrounders that weighed 280kg for 672 cents and these young steers came back at $1875.

Well that about wraps it up for this week, with Dubbo back into its normal program next week with sheep & lambs on Monday.

So until next week ……………………………… Bye.
